A Big thank you to the Rideau Canoe Club and the Eastern Ontario Division for hosting the event and the many volunteers from across Ontario who are making this a great competition for Canada’s best paddlers.

Ontario Athletes Competing for Canada

It’s been a busy summer for Ontario’s top athletes.  Congratulations to all Ontario athletes who competed at the World Cups, Junior/U23 World Championships and Senior World Championships.  If you haven’t already done so, take a moment to view their great accomplishments at www.canoekayak.ca

Good luck to all Ontario athletes competing in the final international competitions of the year at the Rio Test Event and the Olympic Hopes Regatta!

Ontario Team Tour & Camp

46 Ontario traveled to Ottawa to compete for Ontario at the Canada Cup 2 on June 30/July 1.  Wearing their new Ontario jerseys, Ontario athletes dominated the event and won the regatta burgee!

After taking some time to visit the fireworks on Canada Day, 29 athletes then traveled to Nova Scotia to take part in the Canada Cup 3 on August 4/5.  Ontario finished 2nd to the Canadian Team at the regatta and was the highest ranked province in the overall Canada Cup Series points.  Next year we look forward to taking the title from Team Canada.  Thank you to coaches Mari Ellery, Helen Savin, Jeremy Fowlie and Sam Roworth.

On July 10-14 Ontario’s top U17 athletes traveled to Welland to take part in the Talent Acceleration Program (TAP) U17 Pan Am Training Camp.  Participants trained extremely hard, while at the same time, had the great opportunity to cheer on Team Canada during the CanoeKayak Pan Am Games events.  Thanks to coaches Pat Lester, Helen Savin, Richard Dalton, Bill Trayling and Jaclyn Gardiner for their dedication to support Ontario future Pan Am Games athletes.

Check out our Facebook page at Ontario Canoe Sprint Racing Affiliation (OCSRA) to view some great pictures from all 3 events.

OCSRA is looking for new funding opportunities to continue to provide these events for our athletes in the future.  Such training and competition support will go a long way to assist Ontario athletes in reaching international success.  Any parent with ideas on how to provide funding support to the program can email Ryan Blair at ryanlblair@gmail.com.

OCSRA’s Club & Coach Development Project

OCSRA is in its 2nd year of providing equipment, athlete/coach mentoring and program support to clubs through our Club & Coach Development Project (CCDP).  Due to the increase in requests for on-site club visits, OCSRA has contracted Bill Trayling to focus on our Northern region.  We want to thank Bill for all his knowledge and experience he is providing to the clubs and look forward to the increased support and success of our Northern clubs.
