Ontario Athletes Have Another Great Showing at World Cup #2

Ontario Athletes had another great showing this weekend at the 2nd World Cup of the season in Duisburg, Germany.  Team Canada was led by Mallorie Nicholson (Burloak Canoe Club) who won a silver and a gold in the C-1 200m and C-2 500m (partner Laurence Vincent-Lapointe, QC) events respectively, and Adam Vankoeverden (Burloak Canoe Club) who brought home a silver in the K-1 1000m event.  Team Canada also won bronze medals in all 3 relay events with Ontario athletes Aaron Rublee (Burloak Canoe Club) and Mark Oldershaw (Burloak Canoe Club) contributing as part of the C-1 200m team; KC Fraser (Balmy Beach Canoe Club) as part of the Women’s K-1 200m team; and Rhys Hill (Rideau Canoe Club) as part of the Men’s K-1 200m team.


Mark Oldershaw and Brady Reardon also from the Burloak Canoe Club narrowly missed the podium finishing 4th in the Men’s C-1 1000m event and the Men’s K-1 500m event respectively.  Brady also finished 2nd in the C-Final of the Men’s K-1 1000m.    Paul Bryant and Roland Varga (Richmond Hill Canoe Club) had a strong weekend as well finishing 1st in the B-Final of the Men’s C-2 1000m, and 8th in both the Men’s C-2 500m and 200m A-Finals.  In addition to their silver medal in the relays Aaron Rublee (Burloak Canoe Club) finished 9th in the C-1 200m; Rhys Hill (Rideau Canoe Club) finished 2nd in the B-Final of the Men’s K-1 200m; and KC Fraser (Balmy Beach Canoe Club) finished 7th in the B-Final of the Women’s K-1 500m and 8th in the B-Final of the Women’s K-1 200m.  In the Men’s K-2 1000m Steven Jorens of Richmond Hill, Ontario, finished 8th with partner Richard Dober Jr of Quebec, and Chris Mehak (Burloak Canoe Club) finished 8th in the B-Final with partner Phil Duchesneau of Quebec.
