Ontario Athletes Selected to Represent Canada at the 2011 Senior and Junior World Championships

Ontario Team and Canadian Sport Centre Ontario OHPSI supported athletes Aaron Rublee (Burloak), Mallorie Nicholson (Burloak) and KC Fraser (Balmy Beach) had fantastic results this past weekend at National Team Trials #2 earning them spots on the 2011 Senior World Championships team that will represent Canada in Szeged, Hungary August 17-21, 2011.  These athletes will be part of the team trying to qualify boats for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.  Ontario National Team athletes Mark Oldershaw (Burloak), Rhys Hill (Rideau), Adam Van Koeverden (Burloak), Chris Mehak (Burloak), Corey Hamilton (Rideau), Brady Reardon (Burloak), and Kristin Gauthier (Rideau) will also be participating in the World Championships.  In addition, athletes Jean Dagher, of Ottawa and Sulieman Muse of Toronto will represent Canada in the Para Canoe division at the Senior World Championships.


Canada’s Junior Athletes will also be participating in the Junior World Championships in Brandenburg, Germany from July 29-31. Ontario athletes Christopher Vincent and Joel Castonguay both from the Mississauga Canoe Club will represent Canada in the Men’s Canoe Division.  Rideau Canoe Club athletes Alexandra Joy and Madeline Schmidt will represent Canada in the Women’s Kayak Division.  Although not selected to the Junior Worlds Team honorable mentions should go out to Lee Barich and Drew Gildner  from Mississauga for winning the Junior C-2 1000m event; to Drew Hodges from Rideau for winning the C-1 1000m event; and to Alana Bray-Lougheed for winning the K-1 200m event.
