posted Feb 21, 2016, 1:26 PM by Ryan Blair   [ updated Feb 21, 2016, 1:27 PM ]

We are just 3 weeks away from the start of camp.  Please review the final camp information below.  If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact Ryan Blair ryanlblair@gmail.com or Camp Manager, Jessica Murphy-Burke jessica.murphyburke@live.ca.

Boat Loading

Boat loading will occur at the times/locations listed below.  Athletes are responsible for providing their own straps (no bungee cords).  Paddles and paddling equipment may be taken with you as personal baggage or packed in your boat.  No other personal items are allowed in the boat and will be removed as they will cause a delay at customs.  All boat covers must be labeled with the athletes name and club.  No equipment or personal items will be taken in the van.

OCSRA’s safety policy and Canadian & US Coast Guard Regulations governing racing canoes/kayaks will be followed.  2016 U15 athletes are required to wear a government certified PFD at all times while in their boat.  All other athletes are required to have a government certified PFD in their boats.

Travel

Athletes need to send Jessica jessica.murphyburke@live.ca their travel details, including: name of airline, flight number, and arrival time and departure airport. If you are not flying direct please include the connecting airport and flight numbers for all connecting flights. All athlete pick-ups are from TAMPA International Airport (TPA), if you are landing at a different airport and/or are arranging your own transportation to Homosassa please let us know ASAP. Once all flight information has been received Jessica will confirm athlete pick up times.

Jessica will be the staff member who meets the athletes when they land. We will send out the meeting place information when we send out the pick-up schedule. Her contact info is listed in the communication section of this update. Athletes who will be bringing a cell phone to the training camp please send Jessica the number.

Any athlete driving their own car to camp will not be permitted to transport other athletes under the age of 18 while at camp.

US Customs

Regulations at US Customs have now changed. You now have to clear US Customs twice when travelling by air. You will have a pre-clearance at the Canadian airport and a second check once you land in TAMPA. All athletes under the age of 18 must provide a letter of permission from their parents to travel alone to the US. The letter needs to be signed by both parents and should indicate the purpose of the trip, where the athlete will be staying (5297 S. Cherokee Way, Homosassa, FL 34448), duration of trip, who will be meeting them at the airport (Jessica) and your contact information. We have included a sample letter of permission form for your reference. More information can be found at http://travel.gc.ca/travelling/children/consent-letter.
